Improving life outcomes through mentoring programs and scholarships for youth in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, and Washtenaw counties



Our mentoring programs connect people who have similar skills and knowledge (mentors) with individuals (mentees) who need or want the same skills to move up in work, skill level or school performance. Mentor program helps break down barriers and create opportunities for success. It is our intent to implement proven, research-based best practices to achieve the desired outcomes listed below.


The Southeast Michigan Omega Foundation, Inc. (SMOFI) is a tax exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports African American male youth—through mentoring programs and college scholarships. Serving youth in Wayne, Washtenaw and Oakland counties, the goal is to maximize their potential”.



SMOFI Vision Statement for Mentoring envisions, “A community in which every youth experiences nurturing one-to-one relationships and community support, which in turn allows each of them to develop into their full potential, capable of making informed, responsible decisions as an involved member of our community”.

  • Build scholarship – improving academics, raising achievement level
  • Build Perseverance– process of coming to a conclusion after consideration
  • Build Uplift – process of making decisions and showing the ability to lead
